Tip 1 | Your brand voice
Struggling to connect with your audience? Let’s take a look at your brand voice. A brand voice is more than just how you sound on social media, it’s the personality behind your business and it should aim to sound the same across all touch points in your business - from your website copy, social media posts to customer emails and even down to the tiny details like how you speak to your customers on the phone! Your tone of voice should be consistent everywhere to create a cohesive brand experience and build a stronger, genuine connection with your audience.
Set some time aside and look at some recent examples of where your voice appears, it could be a recent post, website copy and a customer email, and read them out loud. Do they all sound like they belong to the same business?
Does your voice align with your brand values?
Does your brand voice speak the language of your ideal audience?
Does it feel natural for your business?
If you’re reading and thinking, “Hmm… this feels disconnected,” it might be time to revisit your brand voice. Make sure it sounds natural and reflects the business you want to represent.
Remember: The more you write, the easier it’ll be to stay consistent with it and you’ll naturally develop your voice.
Tip 2 | A quick visual health check
Are you feeling a bit embarrassed in your business because it’s not looking as consistent as it could do and it needs a few little updates. When bits of your branding are mismatched, it does stand out.. But don’t worry! We can fix this.
Do your brand colours look consistent across platforms? If you’re not sure, create a color palette with your primary brand colors and make sure you stick to using these colours for your brand materials!
Are you using the same 2-3 fonts each time? A mix of too many fonts can confuse your audience. Choose 2-3 fonts (one for headers, one for paragraphs, one for call to actions) and update your website and social media to match.
Are your social media profile pictures clear, professional and high resolution? Take a new, high-quality photo and update your profile images to reflect your brand style. If you’re using a logo as a profile picture, make sure you use your smallest logo to fit the smaller displays (like the circle profile picture on insta) and your main logo on your website.
Does your website have a favicon (the tiny square on your browser tab)? If not, create a, recognisable favicon that represents your brand - this could be as simple as your brand colour in a square, which looks better than having no branding at all.
These are just a few small focus points that are part of a bigger picture. These details might feel like tiny stuff, but trust me *consistency is everything*. When your branding is aligned across all platforms, it not only gives your business a more polished look but also builds trust with your customers. When something feels off, customers do notice (I’m sure you’ve experienced it while shopping) and it could be the deciding factor between choosing your brand or your competitor.
Tip 3 | Can customers find key info about your business easily?
Ok so this one seems pretty straightforward, right? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to find information about a businesses parking, or if they’re open on Sundays? These small nuggets of info might be familiar to you but as a new customer, it’s sometimes bits that are hard to find! So let’s make it easy for your audience to find the info they need from you quickly and efficiently, leaving a good impression or your brand in their mind.
We might rush to social to check the latest updates however it’s so valuable to have a website that’s the central hub for your business! (and not to mention, great for SEO too!) For example, say you're a service provider, is it easy for potential clients to find key info about your services? Is the key information their for them to read and does it get them excited to find out more about what you offer? Do you direct them on how to take the next step with a clear call to action button? Just having the action button for the potential customer in front of them makes it easier for them!
So for a lil’ recap:
Set aside an afternoon, throw on your fave comfy clothes, pick the right playlist and of course, have your fave drink in hand! Then go through the three tips above to give your brand a little health check. Make any small, relevant tweaks to help your business connect better with your audience, get on potential customers’ radar, and put yourself in their shoes. If you’re not sure where to start or just want someone to help tie it all together (hey, that could be me!), I’ve got you covered. And always remember: small steps build habits and consistency. It’s okay to not do it all at once! 🌱💫
